Label TextAn excellent example of Man Ray’s use of solarization, the subject of this photograph is calla lilies, flowers associated with death and beauty. Man Ray often chose objects for their evocative value, and many of them have a strong erotic mystery. The image is a complex union of highly three-dimensional forms with subtle patterns of varying tones of gray. Space, line, pattern, and form combine to create an elegant, if stark, composition.Exhibition HistoryTMA, Jan 22 - June 8, 1999
