Gimhongsok, born in Seoul, Korea in 1964, is a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene. He currently resides and works in Seoul, Korea, where he also serves as a professor of Stage Art at Sangmyung University in Cheonan. Gimhongsok pursued his artistic education at Seoul National University, Department of Visual Arts (1987), and later at Kunst Akademie Düsseldorf in Germany (1996).

His works have been showcased in various exhibitions worldwide, including the Gwangju Biennial, Venice Biennale, Istanbul Biennale, Yokohama Triennale, Mori Art Museum, Hayward Gallery, Tate Liverpool, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Guggenheim Museum, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Gwacheon and Seoul.
