Mt. Washington is considered one of the foremost companies producing decorative art glass in America in the last half of the 19th century. The glasshouse opened in South Boston in 1830 and relocated to New Bedford, MA in 1870. William L. Libbey (Edward Libbey’s father) owned and ran the company from 1867-1872 before he went to the nearby New England Glass Company.
