Pope Gregory IItalian

Son of Romans Gordianus and Silvia. Noted as a theologian and reformer of the liturgy and the promotion of liturgical music. Gregory's views on art stated that although images, as man-made objects, should not be worshipped, they could be beneficially didactic and used as teaching tools. However, Gregory was accused of destroying pagan literature and classical art, although this may be false.
