Erica RosenfeldAmerican, born 1975
A New York native, Erica Rosenfeld received her BA in 1997 from Kenyon College (Gambier, OH) in Fine Art. Embracing the cultural histories of glassmaking, cooking and crafting, Erica’s work celebrates community-centric, obsessive, labor-intensive ritual. Her hybrid artistic practice has centered on performative, sculptural and social aspects of glass and food-making. She also has a line of jewelry and functional glass.
Erica is a founding member of The Burnt Asphalt Family, an artists’ collective with the mission to create unique, performance-based “installations” that reinvent objects and redefine the relationships of audience and performer, observer and participant. “Each installation activates its space at the crossroads between art, craft, and design, through innovative techniques like hot-glass cooking demonstrations, shared meals and edible sculptures. They have performed throughout the United States, including at the Corning Museum of Glass and the Chrysler Museum of Art.
Her own work is held in private and public collections nationally and has been featured in exhibitions at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, NY, Kentucky Museum of Art, Louisville, KY, Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI, Museum of American Glass, Millville, NJ and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI. Erica has taught at Pilchuck Glass School, Urban Glass, The Corning Museum and Worchester Center for Crafts; she has been a visiting artist at Tyler School of Art, San Jose State, University of the Arts, Pratt University and University of Louisville. Her work is included in the collection of the Museum of Arts and Design and The Museum of American Glass. Erica also has been featured in various publications including The New York Times, Glass Magazine, New York Magazine and American Craft.
