Peter Chang was born in 1944 in London to a British mother and Chinese father, but grew up in Liverpool surrounded by the city’s vibrant music and art scene in the 50’s and 60’s. From 1962 to 1966 he studied graphic design, printmaking, and sculpture at the Liverpool College of Art. He won the Liverpool Senior City Scholarship in 1966, helping him finance studies in Paris, France at the influential printmaking studio, Atelier 17. From 1968 to 1971, Chang studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, receiving a postgraduate diploma in printmaking and sculpture. He moved to Glasgow in 1987 where he lived and worked until his death in 2017. His work has been exhibited globally, including solo shows at the Museum of Art and Design, Helsinki, the American Craft Museum (now Museum of Arts and Design), New York, the Kunstgewerbemuseum, Berlin, and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. His jewelry is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Victoria and Albert Museum, Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim, Museum of Arts and Design (NYC), and National Museums Scotland.
