Keiun 桂雲 (Ōmura Minosuke 大村巳之助), 1912-1987. As a very young man, Keiun studied under Mitsutami Tsuji, who was not a netsuke carver, and learned to carve okimono, especially to-bijin (figures of Tang-dynasty Chinese beauties). At eighteen years old, he began to carve netsuke, studying and working by himself. He was particularly influenced by Kaigyokusai, as evident in his animal netsuke. He is best known for his “Cleaning the Buddha” subject. It is a subject that displays artistry and incredible craftsmanship.
