Matthew Day Jackson, born 1974, is an American artist whose multifaceted practice encompasses sculpture, painting, collage, photography, drawing, video, performance and installation. His art grapples with philosophical questions relating to the evolution of human thought, man’s faith in technology and the myth of the American Dream. Jackson received his BFA from the University of Washington in 1997 and his MFA from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in 2001. Recent solo exhibitions of his work have been held at the Serlachius Museum Gösta, Finland; the Kunstmuseum Luzern, Switzerland; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; and the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art. His work has been included in many group exhibitions, including the 2006 Whitney Biennial; the Nevada Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and MoCA, Tucson. Jackson’s work can be found in many international collections including the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; Stedlijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Princeton University Art Museum, NJ; and the Museo d’Arte Moderna, Bologna, Italy. Jackson is represented by Hauser & Wirth and GRIMM and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
