Joyce J. Scott (born 1948) is a Baltimore native and has maintained an active artistic practice in her native city. She received her BFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD in 1970 and her MFA at the Instituto Allende, San Miguel Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico the following year.

Scott has established herself as an innovative fiber artist, sculptor, jeweler, print-maker, performer, and installation artist whose work creates powerful opportunities for much-needed dialogue on racial, gender, and economic issues. She combines sharp wit, exceptional skill, and explosive honesty to create works that have powerful, if often difficult messages. Her talent to use humor, technique, and a social conscience in her work makes it anything but inaccessible.

Scott is the recipient of prestigious honors from the Tiffany Foundation, the National Endowment of the Arts, and the American Craft Council. She was named a MacArthur Fellow, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Chicago, IL in 2016. Her work is held these and other public collections:
