Gajin FujitaAmerican, born 1972

Gajin Fujita was born in Los Angeles in 1972. He is the son of Japanese immigrants, a painter and an art conservator. Growing up, Fujita became friends with members of the East Los Angeles Graffiti crew who were deeply immersed in the urban hip hop scene. Both his cultural heritage and his connection to the East Los Angeles Graffiti crew have proven to be significant influences in shaping his work.

Fujita attended East Los Angeles College from 1990-1993. He received his BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in 1997 and an MFA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2000. Fujita had a solo exhibition at the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena in 2012 and another at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2015. Fujita continues to live and work in Los Angeles.
