Alison Elizabeth TaylorAmerican, born 1973

Alison Elizabeth Taylor is an American contemporary artist who specializes in the modern revival of the Renaissance art of marquetry, or intarsia wood inlay. By employing this process, which was historically associated with opulence and luxury, her graphic compositions elevate often unglamorous and quotidian subject matter. Her masterful use of this technique to achieve precise detail, bold texture, and surface tension has brought her international recognition.

Taylor currently resides in Brooklyn, NY and holds a BFA from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena (2001) and a MFA from Columbia University (2005). Recent solo exhibitions of her work have been held at such locations as the Chateau de Nyon, Switzerland; Des Moines Art Center; SECCA, Winston-Salem, NC; and the College of Wooster Art Museum, Ohio. Taylor's works can be found in many private and public collections, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art; Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville; and Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City. Taylor is represented by the James Cohan Gallery in New York.
