Label TextKnown for his watercolor paintings, John Whorf was born in Massachusetts and attended the museum school at The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He later studied and worked in Paris. Somewhat eclectic in style, Whorf was influenced in subject matter and technique by the work of Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Edward Hopper, and Andrew Wyeth. Some of these influences can be seen in this vigorous and strong watercolor.Published ReferencesThe Toledo Museum of Art Museum News, no. 81, March 1938, p. 13.
