Label TextBlock books, in the making of which the text and the illustrations were cut on a solid wood block, were naturally the forerunners of printing, but persisted for about sixty years after the invention of movable type. This Biblia Pauperum was the last of all the Block Books and the only one done in Italy. The maker was Zoan Andrea Vavassore at Venice about 1510.Exhibition HistoryToledo Museum of Art, The Art of the Bible, The Bible as Art, Hitchcock Gallery, Nov, 2001-Jan. 2002.
