DescriptionThe krater is intact, save for small restorations in the foot; the lid is broken and repaired. Light brown clay; black glaze partly fired red. Some glaze has flaked off. On each side, at the top, a panel containing two water birds confronted, along with filling orament. The panels are bordered by chevrons in vertical rows enclosed each side by four bands. In the handle spaces, a wavy line above and swastikas below. The edges of the handles are glazed; the outer face bears a row of short strokes. Beneath the panels the body is covered largely with a series of narrow bands; the lower part is glazed. On the pedestal is a chain of dotted lozenge pattern between bands. The underside of the foot is reserved. The upper surface of the mouth is glazed and slopes in. Outside are two narrow bands. The interior is unglazed. The knob of the lid is glazed on top. The rest of the knob and the entire lid are decorated with concentric circles which have largely flaked away. The underside is unglazed.
