Label TextSabartes' text describes the ambience of the bull-fight ring -- it's sunny and shady sides -- and the enthusiasm of the aficionados. Picasso made the drawings (reproduced in this book) between July 11, 1959 and June 26, 1960, and most of them focused on the bull and the picador. The four lithographs depict La pique, Le Picador, Jeu de cape, and Les banderilles. In response to the publisher's request for more color in these black and white prints, Picasso obliged by coloring Le Picador with 24 crayons, which created a printing challenge for the printer Mourlot.Published Referencescf.
