DescriptionThis quilt is a purple on lavender Hawaiian quilt, complete with a central design and a border lei. This design references Mount Kaʻala, the tallest peak on Oahu’s Waianae Mountain Range. The quilt is completed in traditional techniques, including needle-turn appliqué, where rather than using pins, the quilter turns under the raw fabric edge with her needle ahead of stitching. The quilt is echo quilted, where each quilted stitch follows the contours of the central appliquéd design in “ripples” that meet the echo quilting coming from the border lei.
