Exhibition HistoryToledo Museum of Art, Framing Fame: 19th- & 20th-century Celebrity Photography, March 4–June 4, 2017.Label TextThe work of Pop artist Andy Warhol is often closely associated with his larger-than-life depictions of classic Americana, ranging from Marilyn Monroe to a Campbell’s Soup can. However, Warhol’s artistic practice extended far beyond these iconic images and also embraced a range of media: screenprinting, painting, illustration, film, video, and photography. The Polaroids included in Little Red Book speak to Warhol’s passion for photography and his desire to find art in everything he encountered. The book on display here is representative of an extensive series of such works that the Andy Warhol Foundation has generously given to museums around the country.- Works on Paper
