DescriptionArms of Geelvinck and Graafland.
Label TextThe wedding scene in a Baroque cupola surrounded by angels, peacocks, and doves celebrates the union of Nicolaas Geelvinck (1706–1764) and his wife Johanna Jacoba Graafland (1711–1740), who married in 1729. The plate was part of a large set probably ordered from China shortly before Jacoba’s death. The various sea-nymphs and the Triton in the foreground allude to the marine trade connections of this prominent and wealthy Amsterdam merchant family.before 1785
