Label TextDuring the 18th century, a formal English luncheon table or evening dinner would have included an elegant dessert presentation known as a jelly tree. Stacked salvers displayed glasses filled with colorful jellies, sweetmeats, and syllabub, a rich dessert made with frothy sweetened cream curdled with lemon juice, wine or brandy (see illustration). Jelly trees were usually not acquired as matching sets: components were added or replaced over time.
