Label TextA native of Toledo, Ohio, Robert Fritz earned a Ph.D. in chemistry with a specialty in glass at The Ohio State University in 1960. Although Fritz first urged colleagues to use glass as an artistic medium at the American Craft Council conference in 1961, it was not until he attended a summer workshop in 1964 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison led by German studio glass artist Erwin Eisch that he applied the concept to his own career. Utilizing his background in chemistry, Fritz became an early pioneer in experimenting with the types of materials that could be applied to the interiors of blown glass. Sculptural Form represents his dynamic, fluid style that expresses the essence of molten glass while evoking the reflective qualities of polished metal.Published ReferencesPage, Jutta-Annette, Peter Morrin, and Robert Bell, Color Ignited: Glass 1962-2012, Toledo, OH, 2012, p. 40, repr.
