Label TextMade from oak veneered in burr ash and decorated with gilt bronze designs, the pair of pedestals framing the gallery doorway is of late Neoclassical style, which was popular in the late 18th to early 19th centuries under the French Empire of Napoleon Bonaparte. This style was characterized by a resurgent interest in Greco-Roman motifs. In addition to their function as a platform for a sculpture or candelabrum, each pedestal has a lockable door on the back that provides a secret storage space.
