Label TextWith the growth of the middle class in the 18th century, there was an increasing demand for elegant consumer goods. English glassmakers responded with a wide assortment of high-quality products for the table that demonstrated both the skill of the glass decorators and of the glassblowers. The brilliance of English lead glass was enhanced best with polished wheel-cut facets, such as displayed in this dazzling pair of cut-glass candelabra.Published ReferencesBonham's, Fine British and European Glass, London, 17 December 2008, lot 367.Comparative ReferencesSee also Mortimer, Martin, The English Glass Chandelier, 2000, p.96 and p. 99, pl. 45.
