Label TextAs a member of the f/64 photographers’ group along with Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, and Imogen Cunningham, Ruth Bernhard’s work is characterized by photographic clarity and detailed precision. Bernhard commented, “My quest, through the magic of light and shadow, is to isolate, to simplify, and to give emphasis to form with the greatest clarity…To indicate the ideal proportion, and reveal sculptural mass and the dominating spirit, is my goal.” Bernhard was known to take a single picture from one specific angle after setting up a composition meticulously, sometimes over days.Exhibition HistoryToledo Museum of Art, Refraction/Reflection, April 20-September 2, 2012.
