The series comprises a labor of love created over a two-decade period and showcases a tremendous range of techniques: from black and white woodcuts to bright watercolor and acrylic paintings to fabric collage. The books also contain various sculptural elements, hidden mini-books, removable figures, music boxes, and other unexpected discoveries and small details that delight. In Folklife in Poindexter Village Robinson summarizes all the major influences on her life and work, including ancestral events such as the Middle Passage from Africa to America, family history in the slave communities of the South, and the history of the central Ohio area that eventually became the public housing community Poindexter Village in Columbus.
