Label TextThis large lidded porcelain goblet has a rare form that is closely related to Northern European glass goblets. The multiple blades or ‘mereses’ on the stem and cover are particularly emulating the construction of glass goblets. An identical lidded goblet was part of the famous “Vung Tao Cargo,” that had been on an Asian trading vessel bound for Indonesia (where the Dutch East India Company was headquartered) from China. This ship sank in 1691 off the southern coast of Vietnam.Published Referencescf. Christie's, Amsterdam, 7-8 April, 1992, lot 1.
