Label TextThough her work is only recently becoming well known in the United States, Korean artist Lee Bul first came to prominence in Asia when her work represented South Korea in the 1999 Venice Biennale. In all of her work, Bul demonstrates a balance between meticulous craftsmanship and pure ornamentation, with the result of art that sits between the realms of reality and fantasy. The evocative nature of her work is apparent in this untitled hanging “chandelier,” which at once appears to bubble with evanescence and quirky intelligence and to display a stately elegance.Published References"Recent important acquisitions," New Glass Review 28, repr. p. 109 (col.).
