Label TextA pyx is a vessel for holding the Eucharistic wafers consecrated during the mass as Christ’s body, called the “host.” The Christogram or monogram meaning Jesus, IHS, inscribed within disks of white enamel, emphasizes the object’s function. The circular forms recall a common shape of the host.- Decorative Arts
