Label TextIn 1933 Libbey Glass Company introduced a line of luxury glassware designed by Arthur Nash and Edwin Fuerst, which it promoted as ushering in a “New Era in Glass.” Although promoted as part of Libbey’s Modern American series, it offered a distinctive combination of historical and modern elements. With its rounded bodies set atop a square base, the “Knickerbocker” pattern was one of several Art Deco designs the company debuted in the 1930s as it sought to revitalize and modernize its products.Published ReferencesZollweg, Robert, 200 Years of Glass: A History of Libbey Glass, Toledo, OH, University of Toledo Press, 2019, fig. 3-18, repr. col. p. 64.Comparative ReferencesSee also D.
