DescriptionGray glass
Label TextWhile recalling the use of gold decoration on medieval Islamic glassware, this bowl from one of the premier French art glass companies of the late 19th to early 20th centuries features decoration that anticipates the Art Deco style. Founded in 1875 by brothers Jean and Auguste Daum, Daum Frères was a leading proponent of the Art Nouveau style in glass. Beginning in the early decades of the 1900s, they began shifting away from the delicate colors and naturalistic floral motifs of Art Nouveau toward bolder, acid-etched designs that were more geometric and abstract, often executed on colorless glass.
