Label TextTang (pronounced “dong”) Dynasty tomb figures typically represented objects, animals, or people (servants, musicians) that would provide the deceased a comfortable existence in the spirit world. Tang trade and military strength depended on horses, but women and men of the nobility also rode, played polo, and hunted with their horses. Consequently, figures of horses made up one of the largest groups of ceramics in any aristocrat’s tomb.
