Label TextShown in an animated pose, Noël-Nicolas Coypel (1690–1734) looks over his shoulder, his long, curly hair gathered on one side. He was a member of a family of painters to the French court, though he never achieved the level of success of his older brother, Antoine Coypel. He became friends with the young sculptor Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, who was only about 24 when he sculpted this bust. The two would work together in 1732 on the décor of the Church of Saint Sauveur in Paris (now destroyed).Published ReferencesRéau, L., Les Lemoyne, Paris 1927, pp. 106-107, 112, 151, no. 125, Louvre bust repr. pl.
