Label TextIn 1625, Frederik Hendrik (1584-1647) of the House of Orange was elected Stadholder (administrator and military leader) of most of the Dutch Republic. That same year, he married German countess Amalia von Solms (1602-1672). These carved rock crystal portraits of the couple are based on silver medallions executed in 1626, which were in turn based on earlier engravings after painted portraits.
