Label TextLikely intended as a presentation piece, this loving cup features glass by T.G. Hawkes & Co., deeply “carved” with a grapevine theme, and Art Nouveau silver mounts by Gorham, one of America’s leading silver companies. About 1901, Gorham introduced a new line called Athenic, which most often included sterling silver in combination with copper, ivory, or glass. For Athenic pieces, although much handwork was involved, machine work was also used whenever possible to keep the costs down and to take advantage of new technologies.
