Label TextWhen you look at glass, sometimes it’s like staring into the deep blue sea; sometimes it’s like staring into the outer atmosphere of the planet. It’s full of life. —Jack Schmidt Toledo-based sculptor Jack Schmidt has been combining metal and glass in his sculptures since the mid-1970s. He initially preferred stainless steel because he felt that it and glass “share similar characteristics” as materials that respond in particular ways to light.Exhibition HistoryLathrup Village, Michigan, Habatat Galleries, Jack Schmidt, 1988.
