Label TextIn this set of four prints, Ross Bleckner blends abstraction with recognizable forms to create meditations on perception. The bird-like forms in these works glow with a transcendent light and energy. They fly, they fall, or they hover, at all times seeming to vibrate with an inner force. Bleckner wrote, “For me it’s the vibratory quality of repetition. There’s a pulsating under the surface that I’m looking for.” In this series, the artist creates the “vibratory quality” by first digitally printing the sheets with a deep sky-like indigo blue, and then hand-painting the white forms.Published Referencescf.: Ross Bleckner: Remember Me [video] Barbara Wolf, producer and director (New York: Checkerboard Film Foundation, 2000). cf.: Barry Schwabsky, "Ross Bleckner," Artforum (March 1999). cf.: Roberta Smith, "Ross Bleckner," New York Times (November 27, 1998). cf.: Barry Schwabsky, "Memories of Light," Art in America 83 (December 1995): 80-85. cf.: Edmund White, "Ross Bleckner's Icons," Parkett no. 38 (1993): 34-39.
