Label TextBritish sculptor Richard Deacon approached these prints (the first he had made since art school) much like he approached his sculpture. The cutting and shaping of the printing plates and the scraping, scratching, and polishing of the plates’ surfaces relate to his sculptural process. Spatial illusions and organic forms, also part of Deacon’s sculpture, appear in each of the prints. The portfolio is named for the Swiss town where the German poet Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926), an influence on Deacon, spent his last years.
