Label TextA nighttime winter view of a narrow street of inns and bathhouses at Arifuku hot springs is the subject of this color woodblock print. There are many natural hot springs in Japan whose mineral-rich water comes from heated groundwater near volcanoes. The healing powers associated with these hot springs has made bathing in them part of Japanese culture and tradition for centuries. The Arifuku springs were a popular resort destination during the Taisho period (1912–1926). This work was limited to an edition of 100 impressions and was part of Kazuma’s series Landscapes from the San’in District.Published References
