Label TextPierre Bonnard was a painter, printmaker, and photographer who experimented widely with his art, producing designs for screens, furniture, and stage scenery. He is known particularly for the decorative qualities of his paintings—often domestic scenes—and his unconventional use of color. His prints often show an asymmetrical arrangement of figures against a flat-colored and patterned background, an influence from Japanese woodblock prints. Distortions, often comic in nature, enliven his decorative scenes (see too his illustrations for the music book Petit solfège illustré in this gallery).Published Referencescf.
