Label TextJupiter, king of the gods, is beckoning his wife Juno to bed. His arms embrace the goddess. Jupiter’s attribute, an eagle, with lightning bolts firmly grasped in its talons, rests almost subdued at Jupiter’s feet. Juno’s peacock stands in the background, placidly gazing at the scene. Cesio has used far less cross-hatching on the dimly lit figures in this composition. Interior light is suggested, while very short lines and dots produced by the point of the burin give the figures a soft shadowy appearance.Published ReferencesB.
