Label TextStanley William Hayter, who had printed the plates for Solidarité (also in this exhibition), published this album of ten prints, also in support of Spanish Civil War relief. Joan Miró responded to the unavoidable signs of Republican Spain's impending disaster with this and other works of terrible fury and despair (see Miró's Woman Haunted, painted in September 1938, upstairs in Gallery 7). Miró wrote to a friend, "We are living through a hideous drama that will leave marks in our minds … everything happening in Spain is terrifying in a way you could never imagine."Exhibition HistoryBetween the Wars; Sept. 5 2008 through Dec.31 2008
