Exhibition HistoryTMA, The Dramatic Image: Baroque Prints of the 17th Century, February 25 - July 31, 2011.Label TextAs a young woman leans against a balustrade, a shabbily dressed gypsy fortune teller reads her palm. The woman seems perhaps a little skeptical, while an amused young man places his hand on her shoulder and appears to be whispering in her ear. This print was given to the Toledo Museum of Art by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in 1955 when Toledo acquired Nicolaes Verkolje’s painting of the same subject (currently off view).- Works on Paper
