Label TextLevel was the author of one of Picass0's first monographs. In SOIUVENIRS D"UN COLLECTIONNEUR, the author, an insatiable collector, recounts his memoirs on art collecting since his youth. In 1904 Level had founded a club of young art-lovers; the club's purpose was to buy paintings, enjoy them for ten years, and then re-sell them. In 1908, the club acquired Picasso's 1905 paiting LA FAMILLE DES SALTIMBANQUES, and this is how Level first became acquainted with the artist. To illustrate this book, Picasso made a lithograph of two circus figures which deliberately recalls the Saltimbanques period of fifty years earlier.Published Referencescf.
