Label TextAs illustrations for Sergei Bobrov's somewhat old-fashioned poems, Natalia Goncharova created two-color lithographs in a distinctly modern style she called Rayism. Invented by Goncharova and her lifelong companion and collaborator Mikhail Larionov, Rayism was wittily called by a poet friend "a Cubist interpretation of Impressionism." Bobrov, in a short essay ending this book, praised Goncharova's lithographs as independent visual poems that "did not attempt to add anything to the poet's conception, but enabled the artist to use an analogous metaphor."Published Referencescf.
