DescriptionPrinting completed on 7 December 1937. A French edition was also published (see 1984.700).
Loose gatherings (unsigned, 12 2--274 28--292) laid into tan wove paper wrappers letterpress printed in black with text in French and the triangular Maillot woodcut. The text, woodcut, and layout are same as those on the wrappers for the TMA copy of the French edition, but the type is a variant setting. Both the French wrappers and the unbound state of the gatherings differ from Rewald’s description of the English edition as having been issued bound in vellum. The suite of woodcuts, proofs and drawings is laid into a tan wove paper portfolio with three flaps. On the inner flap in black ink: Suite de l’exemplaire no. 1 (UNIQUE) | contenant: | 2 dessins originaux | 7 Bon-à-tirer.
The book and suite are housed in a chemise and slipcase, both covered with coated white paper embossed to imitate morocco; the chemise is lined with white laid paper. The slipcase fore-edges and chemise spine are covered with vellum-like paper.
