Label Text:Although Hiroshi Yoshida is best known for his remarkable woodblock prints made in the first half of the 20th century, he began his career as a painter. Yoshida studied Western style painting under two Japanese masters who had introduced Impressionism to Japan. By working and selling his paintings, Yoshida travelled to the United States and Europe to continue his studies. On his return to Japan, he continued with his work in watercolors and also in oils, becoming widely known in Japan as one of the most talented artists in the Western-influenced style.
