Label Text:This intricately painted shabti figure—a funerary servant designed to perform labor on behalf of the deceased in the afterlife—is inscribed with the name and title: “The Osiris, the wab priest, Bak-en-Mut.” The phrase "Osiris" before the name reflects the Egyptian belief that, in death, the deceased becomes associated with the god Osiris, the ruler of the underworld. Bak-en-Mut, identified as a wab-priest (a purification priest), would have held an important role in temple rituals, performing sacred ablutions.
