Label Text:The twenty poems by Luis de y Gongora y Argote, a 16th century Spanish poet and contemporary of the painter El , were translated into French by Milner. Picasso copied out the poems in his own handwriting and then embellished each page with various drawings in the margins. Each poem is preceded by a print: a portrait of Gongora (after a Velasquez painting) and 19 heads of women.
