Label Text:Chuck Close has achieved iconic status within the art world and beyond for his portraits executed on a massive scale. He is renowned for the inventive techniques he utilizes to paint the human face. Working from polaroid pictures, Close uses a grid to scale up to his preferred large size, painstakingly filling each square with intricate patterns to build a mosaic-like image. He has duplicated this effect in his screenprints.
