Label Text:Laura de Santillana is an internationally recognized Italian artist and designer whose work inhabits an obscure space between painting and sculpture. Designed by Santillana and made by Maestro Simone Cenedese (Italian, born 1973), Flag is a flattened vessel that mimics the two-dimensionality of canvas. De Santillana’s use of bold blocks of color is inspired by the expressive work of the American color-field painter Mark Rothko (see illustration). It investigates the intricacies of color, form, and mass. The poetic dimension of her work revolves around the intricacies of her color choice, the unusual form, and luminous quality of the glass found in these painting-like glass objects.
