Label Text:Considered a master of traditional glassblowing techniques, Benjamin Moore is known for his clean, elegant forms of pure color that exemplify the influence of Venetian glassmakers. Early in his career Moore pursued opportunities to work with the exceptionally skilled Italian glassblowers by writing to 16 different glass factories on the Venetian island of Murano, Italy. Only one company, Venini, responded to his inquiry. From 1978 to 1979, Moore worked at the Venini factory, apprenticing under Checco Ongaro.

Once back in the US, Moore sought to connect American glassblowers with the art of Venetian glassblowing. In 1979 Moore brought Lino Tagliapietra, Ongaro’s brother-in-law and one of the most renowned and skilled Venetian glassblowers, to Pilchuck Glass Center to teach. This began a life-long relationship between American and Italian artisans, forever changing the landscape of the art of glassblowing in the United States.
